Pizza reduces the risk of some kinds of cancer

АврораUse of pizza can reduce the risk of some kinds of cancer. This conclusion was made by researchers at Milan's Institute of Pharmacology in a survey of more than 8000 Italians, wrote the British newspaper "The Guardian” on Monday, with refer to the Italian “La Repubblica”.

According to the study results, those who eat pizza several times a week have the risk of having disease less than those who has never eaten it.

Gastronomic addiction of 3315 Italians, the tumor of the digestive tract or throat, were studied in detail and compared with similar data on 5000 patients infected with other diseases. 

According to scientists, the risk of tumors in the oral cavity is reduced by pizza lovers for 34%, esophagus - 59%.

"We learnt that tomato protects the organism from certain kinds of tumors, but we could never assume that the entire pizza in a whole organism makes such strong protection", - said Silvano Gallus a researcher in an interview with La Repubblica.

Meanwhile, the Milan epidemiologist Carlo La Vecchioa points out that the study results do not mean that the pizza is itself a means to fight cancer.

He noted that it is "an evidence of lifestyle and nutrition”, which uses natural methods of cooking and avoiding the industrial production. In addition, the scientist recalled that similar properties of tomato sauce were known from early times.
